Baker Park Sundial Concept

sundialCharles' entry was among the finalists in Frederick City's inaugural public art competition. The proposed design was a large-scale, interactive timepiece that chronicaled local history and introduced visitors to earth science.

His 2003 mixed media design included steel, concrete, and bronze. Charles proposed that the sundial would be a 30' elligse with a 13' gnomon. As the shadow of the gnomon swept across the ellipse it would point to plaques denoting the hour and each commemorating events throughout Baker Park's 75 years.
